HAMLIN'S WILL ENTERTAIN FOR SPECIAL COUNCIL PICNIC

A COMBINED PICNIC AND SHORT BUSINESS MEETING WILL BE HELD FRIDAY EVENING, JULY 30, AT THE HAMLIN FARM NORTH OF THE FERRY STREET BRIDGE. PETITIONS HAVE BEEN CIRCULATED AMONG CLUB MEMBERS, ADVOCATING THE BUILDING OF A LODGE AT THE DEER BUTTE SITE, AND SUFFICIENT SIGNATURES HAVE BEEN SECURED TO CONVINCE A MAJORITY OF THE BOARD THAT THOSE OPPOSED TO THIS SITE ARE SMALL IN NUMBER, AND THAT A GREAT MANY BELIEVE IN THE ORIGINAL RECOMMENDATION OF THE BOARD TO BUILD HERE. THE MEETING IS CALLED TO SEE IF OPINIONS HAVE CRYSTALIZED, AND IF SO, TO AUTHORIZE COMMENCEMENT OF WORK. WE WILL COUNCIL AROUND THE CAMP FIRE AFTER A POT-LUCK PICNIC LUNCH. OBSIDIANS AND THEIR FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO THE PICNIC, BUT ONLY PAID-UP MEMBERS MAY VOTE AT THE SHORT BUSINESS SESSION. COMPLETE PLANS OF THE PROPOSED LODGE WILL BE KNOWN.

PROPOSALS WERE MADE TO BUILD NEAR TOWN--WITHIN TEN OR FIFTEEN MILES. ALL THESE IDEAS, WITH THEIR ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES, WERE THOROUGHLY GONE OVER BY THE PRESENT BOARD MEMBERS WITH OTHER MEMBERS, AND ALL FACTORS WERE TAKEN

CLIMAX OF OBSIDIAN YEAR AT ANNUAL SUMMER CAMP BY GLENN SIMS

THE DATE (AUG. 8TH TO 22ND) OF THE TENTH ANNUAL OBSIDIAN SUMMER CAMP IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY, AND ALL OBSIDIANS AND THEIR FRIENDS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO A GRAND VACATION OF TWO WHOLE WEEKS IN THE COOL HIGH MOUNTAINS.

THIS YEAR THE CAMP WILL BE LOCATED ON THE SHORE OF ONE OF THE THREE SMALL EMERALD LAKES OF THE GREEN LAKES GROUP, BETWEEN THE SOUTH SISTER AND BROKEN TOP MOUNTAINS. THERE WILL BE GOOD FISHING IN THE 'FROND DOOR' OF THE CAMP AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER LAKES WITHIN HIKING DISTANCE, WHERE THE FISH KNOW LITTLE OF AN ARTIFICIAL FLY AND NOTHING OF THE HUMAN BEING THAT MAY ENDEAVOR TO CATCH THEM. MANY OF THESE LAKES ARE SELDOM VISITED BY FISHERMEN AS THEY ARE OFF THE BEATEN PATH.
