Trips In October
OCT. 4-5 COAST TRIP
This promises an overnight stay at a comfortable cabin about 3 miles north of Waldport. We'll have an evening of fun and games and a beach hike Sunday. Bring your own food and a potluck dish for a big dinner Sunday. Florence and Glen Sims, leaders, say there is room for 25, and 15 have already signed up. So hurry!
OCT. 12 BIG BELKNAP CRATER QUAL.
There is much of geologic interest in both big and little Belknap Craters which are reached after a hike of about 4 miles over the lava beds. Bob Lemon Jr. will lead this trip and plans to use a rope for a 25-foot drop into the crater which we will explore by flashlight.
OCT. 19 TIPSOO BUTTE QUAL.
A good trail -- and steep, to a lookout 5 miles up from the South Fork of the McKenzie. A wonderful view on top makes the trip well worth while.
OCT. 25-26 OBSIDIAN CABIN
Ostensibly, this is a work trip to get the cabin shipshape for winter and to bring in some wood; but the Obsidian Princesses are staging a bang-up party for all members of the Obsidian Club and their friends - on Saturday night -- so come join the fun! Bring your sleeping bags and some food. And watch for further announcements. Cabin Committee

Big Reward for New Members
Isn't it great to meet the gang Sunday morning for that hike or climb? Of course we are a little disappointed if certain of our friends do not show up. We become quite attached. to these friends of several years and we agree that there is no friend like an old friend. But old friends become such only by having been mere acquaintances at the beginning. Now if friends are really such nice people, why not have more of them than we do?
Surely you have a good pal not belonging to the Obsidians whom you feel would enjoy our many activities. Won't you please share this person with us by bringing him on an early trip? The friend you invite may want to become a member.
Advantages of new members are many. To increase our membership is to increase our possibilities of accomplishments. Each person enriches the club with the talents he possesses. With new members we have a greater variety of personalities and traits. Most important, the greatest reward we receive from new members is their friendship. Be sure to bring your friend on that next trip! D.C.
