The OBSIDIAN

VOL. XIII EUGENE, OREGON - OCTOBER 1953 NO. 8

DALE CARLSON 1953-1954 Club President

OUR NEW PRESIDENT was first met by most of us at Obsidian Camp Keasling at Spirit Lake in the Summer of '49, where he and his brother Henry, enjoyed even the rain that well might have dampened a first weeker's enthusiasm.

The Chief who will pilot the affairs of our club the coming year, is quiet, unassuming and modest -- but very responsible and hard working. You can always depend on Dale Carlson, whether it be to lead a couple dozen hikers to the "top" - carry out the sleeping bag of the littlest hiker, or produce a luscious whipped cream confection for club potluck dinners. (We strongly suspect that he doesn't concoct these himself, however.)

Dale is a man of few words ordinarily, unless he has to drive home his argument; then they are concise, to the point, and always fair. He is a McKenzie River home builder by trade; an enthusiastic woodsman, attended the University of Oregon, likes to square dance, has a definite weakness for red haired gals, and is, surprisingly, still single.

We predict a most successful year under his leadership, and look forward to renewed enthusiasm in the exploration of the mountains and trails of our State. Our congratulations,- Dale,- and the very best of luck with your new duties as President.

NEW CLUB OFFICERS were elected at the Obsidian Annual Meeting held on October 6th.

The Board of Directors selected by the membership for the coming year are:

DALE CARLSON
RAY CAVAGNARO
GENE SEBRING
THELMA WATSON
CLARENCE SCHERER
BLANCHE BAILEY
BAILEY CASTELLOE
VIRGINIA SEBRING
LLOYD PLAISTED

This new board then elected officers to serve the club's 1953-1954 term.

DALE CARLSON President
GENE SEBRING Vice President
CLARENCE SCHERER Secretary
VIRGINIA SEBRING Treasurer

Your Obsidian Board of Directors are pledged to carry out the business of your club in its many functions. The general club membership should give the Board all the assistance possible. This can be done by your suggestions and ideas for improvement in our club, and by yaw friendly cooperation in their work.

It is hoped that all of you will get better acquainted with your Board of Directors thru the year. They will very much welcome your help, as well as your "Thank you" for the big job they are undertaking on behalf of the club.

HALLOWEEN!

. . . sure the Obsidians are having a party . . . Saturday the 31st - at Skovbo's barn. 8 p.m.
