VOL. XIV NOVEMBER-DECEMBER - OBSIDIANS, INC., P. O. BOX 322 - EUGENE, OREGON NO. 10
A Merry Christmas to You!
I wish to extend my thanks for the privilege of serving as your president. The standards that have been established by our past leaders is a goal that I shall strive to maintain.
Since my introduction to the Obsidians I have gathered many fond memories --- a baseball game at Weisers, a bivouac at Scott Camp before a climb, a lunch and snooze in some Alpine meadow, the view of an endless chain of snow-capped giants from some lofty peak, a potluck at Obsidian Cabin, a walk along the carpet-covered banks of some gurgling stream. Just what makes these memories possible? First, we must thank our Creator for the great out-of-doors and then for Obsidians with whom to enjoy it. In no other group can you find people so cheerful and ready to extend a helping hand.
What are the plans for the future of our club? We have many members who are devoting much time and energy to the vital work of conservation. They are trying to save beautiful sections of Oregon that are endangered by power and timber interests. Our building committee is gathering funds and completing plans to start the new club house this year. This project will need the support of all members and they will be compensated with a centralized place in which we can hold all our club activities. The trips, climbing, and outing committees are selecting many enjoyable events in which they hope you will participate this coming year, Our entertainment and camera committees are planning lots of social functions which will be entertaining and educational to you. Our membership, library and publication committees will do their utmost to keep you posted and informed of coming events.
Take advantage of these activities and you too will have many enjoyable memories of this Obsidian year.
