The OBSIDIAN

VOL. XV JUNE 1955 - OBSIDIANS, INC - P. O. BOX 322, EUGENE, OREGON NO. 5

GATEWAY TO TUOLUMNE MEADOWS . . . THE 1955 SUMMER CAMP
July 31 - August 13

Once again "we the Obsidians" and our friends will board a chartered Greyhound bus with our most welcome driver "Clancy" at the helm. This time he will wind it up and head its nose south to another of our great national parks, Yosemite, in the High Sierra of eastern California.

Our campsite will be Tuolumne Meadows, over 8,000t high, in an organizational campground. There are a ranger station, store, gas station, and also saddle stock for rent. Trails radiating from here offer a wide variety of trips.

This is, I believe, the first trip South for the club. The outing committee is sure there will be plenty of fun, frolic, trips, naturalist talks by park rangers, and just good plain loafing for all. Those climbing will have plenty to do also with 12,000 and 13,000 ft. peaks around.

There will be several articles in bulletins to follow on what to see and where to go from camp, so keep your eyes peeled.

Plan now for one of the most economical and certainly the most pleasurable vacation you can find. The total cost will be $75.00, which includes transportation---$80.00 for non-members. L. P.

TRIPS TO COME

We of the trips committee feel that we have some very fine trips planned during the coming month. We hope you agree and that you will turn out for as many as possible. See last month's bulletin for description of the Memorial week-end trip to Fort Rock. All details about this trip will be posted at Hendershott's. The Stahls lead. Frank Sipe has arranged with the Forest Service to lead us to Andrews Experimental Forest on June 5th. On the following week-end the same leaders will take us to Bearbones Mt. Lookout. Both are new trips and hold promise of being extremely interesting. Our first overnight trip will be to beautiful Clear Lake. Help our leader Thelma Watson make this scenic trip a great success. How can you help? Just be there! The Baileys have attached a snowplow to the new Buick and promise to have the McKenzie Pass open for a most enjoyable trip to gorgeous Tumalo Falls west of Bend June 26th.

Each week keep in condition by taking a short hike to Hendershott's to sign up for aforementioned trips.
