SILVER CREEK FALLS
Mother's Day, May 8, was one of those rare Spring days . . . after a week of rain . . that greeted the 18 hikers who went the four miles past the ten Silver Creek Falls. The beautiful spring flowers and the clear blue sky, with the falls at their peak at this time of year, made this an outstanding trip for Obsidians. The usual car was left at the South Falls parking lot and then all drove to the North Falls to start the hike. This was begun at eleven a.m. and much time was taken identifying the many flowers and the picture taking of the beautiful falls. It was almost two P.M. when the first arrived at the parking lot where Clarence and Dorothy Scherer with their five children were met. Most of the crowd arrived by four but some not until five o'clock. It made some late lunches but it was a very enjoyable trip and all enjoyed the wonderful day. Those on the hike: Ken Lodewick, leader, Kay Fahy, Thelma Watson, Myrtle Smith, Art and Lillian Johnson, Catherine Dunlop, Anna Pechanec, Rose Crutchley, Mary and Bailey Castelloe, J. Henry Jeppesen, Bob Medill, Nellie and Mac McWilliams, Katherine Hudson, Harrick Hudson and Ray Sims.
Camping at Black Canyon Saturday night June 4th, the Willamette was a beautiful green - BUT - Sunday morning it had changed to a muddy brown - down past the railroad bridge - they had changed the course of the river up at the dam construction bringing all of the winter's mud--"that's progress" but "no fishing".
