WHAT THE BOARD HEARD
The regular meeting of the Board was held Jan. 5 at the home of Donn Chase. Heard a letter from Maurine Neuberger re: Kennedy-Johnson Conservation Committee. Recommendation made to write her the club stand on Wilderness areas and Seashore issues.
Heard Treasurer Ray Cavagnaro vouch that all approved bills paid; balance $506.25 in bank; $2908.90 installment to contractor (money from savings account); $40.00 Tom Taylor; Mishler's; Renard, Medill, Reid - Committee expense.
Heard Membership Chairman Fahy report $53 in dues and new memberships. Board unanimously accepts Wesley family to club. The resignation of Jr. Caroline Orum was read. Secretary was instructed to write an expression of sympathy to family of Dave Simons.
Heard Publication editor Fehly present new printed heading for Obsidian bulletin; it was approved.
Heard Climbing Committee Chairman Taylor name Sebring, Hilt, Jeppesen and Pat Remele to his committee. Recommended that fees for climbs be collected in advance of climb; if trip does not materialize, fee to be returned. An assistant leader to be appointed to arrange transportation and fee details. Motion by Board passed permitting no children under 14 to take climbs without an adult companion or responsible party at least to base camp. Recommended fewer climbs with good leadership; large groups to be divided at base camp. Motion passed to invite YMCA members to participate in Obsidian activities; no special program to be co-sponsored by the Climbing Committee.
Heard Library Committee Chairman Art Johnson's clippings, and approval of Adeline Adams, committee member.
Heard Alan Reid of Search and Rescue report on Portland meeting of MORESCO. A mountain training rescue school will be held at Mt. Hood June 17-18.
Heard announcement that Jim Jeppesen will accept chairmanship of Outing Committee. Explorer Scout troop sponsored by Obsidians club was discussed. The new Youth Activity Chairman to work closely with the Scout Advisor to provide good program. Cost to families participating in trips was discussed. Trips Committee to give full report and recommendation at next meeting.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 1 (special time) at 7:30 - home of Gene Renard.
Heard McCloskey, Conservation Chairman report on prograss of his committee. Immediate business letter to Neuberger. It is believed the new administration may have some flexibility in policy relative to conservation issues. All conservation problems should be brought to committee attention. Non-members to be invited to Conservation Committee meetings.
