8:00 p.m. Friday evening; thunderstorms and downpour rain in Oakridge-weather forecast - fair - call Gene, he guarantees good weather, climb still on, leader doubtful. 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning; downpour rain in Oakridge - weather forecast - improving - call Gene, he guarantees good weather, climb still on. I am really doubtful - my wife calls me insane. 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon - driving over Willamette Pass in solid rain - leader begins to think wife may be right, I remember Gene's guarantee and push on thinking rain may wash tent.

Arrived at Diamond Lake at 6:15 p.m. Gray everywhere, not a glimpse of the mountain. Had a slight shower around 10:00 p.m. Rose at 5:00 a.m. under cloudy sky but no rain. Go for it! Head up trail at 0700. We climbed above the fog and had sun on us most of the day. Not much of a view but tops of clouds north and west. Gene and Tom helped people up the pinnacle while I checked their knots. Susan elected to nap in the sun rather than do the final pitch so I climbed up and awarded the summit certificates. The clouds were moving back in so we decided to head back down. We had some nice glissades down into the fog (visibility 75') and hiked out over the snow. To the amazement of the group (and myself) I did not get us lost. Thanks to Tom and Gene for helping on the pinnacle and again to Gene for taking care of logistics in town. Climbers were Ray Davis, Tom Daletas, Sharon Daletas, Tom Donnelly, Fran Gnose, Susan Meyer, Chris Shuraleff, Gene Thaxton, and leader Randy Zustiak.
