Trip Report

Our group of eleven left Eugene at 10:00 a.m. Saturday for our climb of Mt. Shasta. Several coffee breaks and lunch at a rest stop north of Grants Pass put us in Mt. Shasta City only minutes before the ranger station closed at 5:00 p.m.

After a cafe supper, we drove to our intended campsite at the south base of the mountain. All were in the sack early in preparation for a 3:00 a.m. call. We were on our way for this 6300 ft climb at 4:00 a.m.; all were on the summit (14,161 ft) by 1:30 p.m. The long glissades and perfect weather made this a near perfect weekend. The only mar being a helicopter rescue of an injured skier from the 10,000 ft Lake Helen area.

Shasta climbers were John Cecil, Ray Davis, Sally Grosscup, Gary Kalbfliesch, K.C. Kraft, Christine Ligneau, Betty Legris, Glenn Meares, Dick Nichol, Sherlynn Sacapan, and leader Lee Hatch.
