Trip Report

Camp Thaxton
Ruby Mountains, Nevada
July 25–August 1, 1982

Camp Thaxton 1982
(to tune of Jingle Bells)
To camp at Ruby Mountains
We made our way by car.
Absorbed good scenery on the way,
The distance was so far.
We found the camp with ease,
Its luxuries were great.
Hot showers and a dining room,
Oh, we could hardly wait.
Chorus
Climb the trails,
Climb the trails,
Up the steep terrain.
Pack your lunch, don your boots
And hope it doesn’t rain.
Climb the trails,
Climb the trails,
A different one each day.
Dr. Baldwin will explain the rocks along the way.

Selma came along,
Her food just can’t be beat.
We’re looking forward to that pie
That’s been our favorite treat.
Lloyd Plaisted at the head,
With Wes and Frank and Bea,
Wilma, Margit, also Gwen
All planned our Camp Rubee.

The first day we get rain,
But hiked out just to see.
Found Island Lake and Thomas Trail
and the route to Liberty.
After that the sun
Was shining every day.
All the flowers smiled their best
while cameras clicked away.

The program so well planned
With a T-shirt jamboree,
And then the President’s Tea
Climaxed the gaiety.
Too soon we must go home,
Too soon good-by we say
to Harrises and Macdonalds
Who came from far away.
Last Chorus
Thaxton Camp, Thaxton Camp,
Nineteen eighty-two.
Never will we ever have
A better camp than you!

The Necklace
The following was read to Gene Thaxton at the President’s Tea at summer camp when he was presented a gift of a necklace —

Crown jewels to adorn our President Thaxton,
Leader of this great Obsidian tribe.
Mother nature is Gene’s strong attraction,
Preserving the flora and fauna he does subscribe.
So, Gene, while you were out climbing a peak,
We found these down near Thomas Creek.
Ewart and Tom will classify all
These nuggets are composed of nature’s call.
