Trip Report

We followed the Fall Creek Trail about two miles before taking off cross country for our campsite at the West base of Broken Top. After rest and camp set up we were on our way up the North ridge in warm, sunny weather. Back to camp at 6:00 p.m.

After a clear and windless day, the rain that started about 9:30 p.m. and lasted all night was a real surprise. We had planned to start the climb of South Sister at 7:00 a.m., but delayed till after 8:00 for the weather to clear. All decided to climb and half way to Red Ridge we were in whiteout conditions. After some trouble finding the ridge, we made it to the summit with cold, strong wind and hail.

Nice weather at Green Lakes and to the cars for John Cecil, Margaret Crosland, Ray Davis, Tom Donnelly, Chuck Howe, Christine Ligneau, Daniel Samms, Chris Shuraleff and leader Lee Hatch. (Tom Donnelly and Chris Shuraleff climbed only Broken Top.
