Trip Report

Fourteen people signed up for this "interesting" trip but only six of us headed for Crater Lake. Saturday at 5:45 a.m. three of the bikes were borrowed and quite "heavy" so we took our time to pedal the hill 33 miles around the rim. Fortunately the rain held off until we were packed up ready to drive to the Lake of the Woods Resort.

National Forest Road #34 from Ft. Klamath to the resort was short and scenic. By 6:30 p.m. we were lining up for the hot bath in our large, comfortable cabin. The food at the restaurant - prime rib - was excellent. The owners of the resort were very helpful and made arrangements to safeguard our bikes while we climbed on Sunday.

In the rain we started up the trail at 7:45 a.m. The weather only got worse. We were on the summit by 11:15 a.m. and back to the car by 1:45 p.m. Later at the Lake of the Woods restaurant we celebrated Christine's 10th peak and her sister's first summit. Bicycling only was Deanne Meier; climbers and bicyclists were Bernadette and Christine Ligneau, Connie Spangler, John Jacobsen and leader Jan Baker.
