Trip Report

This was supposed to be the Horsepasture Saddle snowshoe trip, but rain coupled with warm winds made the prospects of a mid-elevation snowshoe trip a dismal if not impossible venture. So as not to waste the day it was decided to rebuild the Fail Creek-Jones Trail junction. Armed with pulaskis, failing axes, a power saw and half a ton of accessories, we arrived at the work site in good time. After spending a short time discussing the problem (slipping tread), we were all hard at work bucking trees, installing retaining logs and leveling the tread. Within a few hours we had a Grade "A" trail junction and approaches. Still not satisfied, we decided to build a sitting bench nearby. Another two hours of planning, sawing, digging and nailing and a rustic rest stop was ready for trail-wearing users. A brief breather to admire our work and we were headed back to the car and Dairy Queen. Needless to say, on the way down we found another section of trail in need of repair, more digging, cutting, etc. and we were ready to call it a day. Trail builders were John Cecil - lead pulaski, Betty Legris - mason, and Pete Cecil - saw operator and leader.
