Trip Report

The six climbers for this climb arrived at the Santiam Pass access to the Pacific Crest Trail Friday night and Saturday morning. We left the cars at 6:00 a.m. under mostly cloudy skies. Along the trail we saw a few deer and heard some birds which the birders in the group keyed out for the rest of us. Had a beautiful view of the mountains from Jefferson to Bachelor Butte. We arrived at the crawl around 10:30 a.m., ate some lunch and started across at 11:00 a.m. It turned sunny by the time we got to the chimney. Party comments ranged from "How, do you climb that?" to "Is that all there is?" With some very much appreciated help from George belaying everyone across the knife edge, we and three other climbers made it to the top with no problems. We arrived back at the cars about 8:00 p.m., sore and blistered, but happy with our accomplishments. The six climbers were Moki Honz, Rick Ahrens, Jim Hunter, George Jobanek, Barbara Mickel, and leader Keith Blunck.
