Trip Report

Diamond Peak via the SE ridge - the party of 10 climbers assembled Saturday evening at Summit Lake East campground (The road from Crescent lake to Summit Lake is in excellent condition this year). At 6:45 a.m. Sunday we drove up on to the Pacific Crest trailhead where we started the climb at 7:00 a.m. After much boulder hopping, rolling lava stumbling, and scree slogging we reached the summit about 11:30 a.m. under a clear, cloudless sky.

After lunch, sunbathing, summit book reading and entering, and summit certificate presentations, we started down only to run into Parker Riddle and friend going up the ridge on a maverick climb (now we knew who we were disturbing in the blue tent across from the trailhead at 7:00 a.m.!!).

Back to the cars at 3:45 p.m. with praises for the weatherman (or was it those Obsidian sun dances by the female climbers on Saturday night??) Summiteers were Rick Ahrens, Pete Cecil, Moki Honz, Margaret Hadaway, George Jobanek, Barbara Mickel, Mike Nichol, Shirlynn Spacapan, Michel Wright and leader Wes Prouty.
