Trip Report

Only two volunteer trail maintenance crew members took advantage of an invitation to spend overnight at Homestead Campground before Sunday's work party. You'll never know what a good time you missed!!!

Joella and I met Gene Flint, Recreation Specialist of Blue River, at the Rebel Creek trailhead at 9 a.m. Sunday morning. We helped pack in an Alaskan saw and other equipment necessary to work on our bridge project. We had skinned the main log by the time the rest of our party arrived shortly after 10 a.m. Gene Flint and John Cecil operated the large saw to remove a large slab from the top to make the flat surface on which to walk. John stood on a makeshift bridge of rock and bark while Gene waded in knee-deep creek water. Most of the poles necessary for the handrails were cut and skinned, and an approach to the bridge on one side was nearly completed.

It was a hot day, but we were near the water and in the shade a good share of the time. We finished our day off with a creek-cooled watermelon packed in by myself in appreciation of a good hard-working crew.

Thanks to all - John and Pete Cecil, Dallas Cole, Joella Ewing, Vi Johnson, Betty Legris, Gene Flint, and leader Mike Wright.
