Trip Report

A full house - ninety persons turned out for the January Potluck! The highlight of the evening was a superb travelogue of China by Frances Newsom who toured there 29 days in May 1984. Her pictures guided us through elaborate emperor's palaces, hotels, gardens, and over the Great Wall. Then we traveled up the Yangtze River where we witnessed coal, logs and fertilizer being shipped as well as farmers planting rice. The toll paths high up on the river bank and the cliff carvings at Dazu were of great interest. The tour ended in Southern China on the Li River where the banks were lined with lacy bamboo trees and the Karst Mountains rimmed the skyline. Thank you Frances for the delightful entertainment. We're proud of you also for once again proving yourself to be a great Obsidian by climbing multitudinous staircases!
