Trip Report

This Trails Committee-sponsored work trip to Bobby Lake close to the Waldo Extension of the Three Sisters Wilderness attracted only minute support in spite of a plea to the assembled membership at the recent Annual Meeting . . . In the event, the four Obsidian participants "rehabilitated" the lake (made even more beautiful by a light snowfall the night before) of accumulated rubbish and rendered it fit for use by all. Eight gross fire rings were cleaned and relaid; several smaller ones dispersed. Three sacks of assorted camper/hunter/hiker trash (cans, bottles, plastic, foil) were retrieved and hauled back to the trailhead. Along the way a lightning-ignited tree stump on the northern lake shore, burning internally and very hot, was extinguished and made safe. Later, it was discovered that the hills surrounding the far end of "Bobby" act as a perfect sounding board and yodels and shouts echoing and booming across the water must have startled (!?) the party of hunters that were encountered!!

Yodeling, fire-fighting trash-pickers at Bobby Lake were Tim Cook, Betty Macy, Suzanne Steussy and John Cecil, leader.
