Trip Report

Local author William L. Sullivan was enthusiastically received at the February Potluck when he presented his 1361-mile walking trip through the Wilderness areas of Oregon. His book "Listening for Coyotes" describes this trip. Starting at Cape Blanco on the coast, he described his route through the Kalmiopsis and Klamath Wildernesses, through our own Three Sisters area and McKenzie Pass to Mnt. Jefferson, then east to Smith Rocks, the Ochoco and Strawberry Mountains, Blue Mountains and on to Hell's Canyon at the extreme northeast corner of the state. Carrying a 60-lb. pack, he followed established trails mostly, but sometimes bushwhacked through sunshine, snow and wind. Fifty-three people attended the potluck; 63 enjoyed the slideshow program. - Vera Woolley
