Trip Report

We went to Kah-nee-ta by way of the McKenzie River, Santiam Pass with a brief stop at Sisters and then by Lower Bridge to Cove State Park where we had lunch down by the shore of Lake Billy Chinook. After lunch, we followed the rim to the Round Butte Dam and although the observation house was closed, most of us climbed the stile and peered over the edge. We arrived at Kah-nee-ta mid-afternoon in time to swim at the village and to have dinner.

The next day was spent leisurely, swimming and hiking and eating. We left at 10:30 Thursday, stopped briefly at the curio shop by the Deschutes Bridge, then took the Pelton Dam Road. After passing the dam the road became too steep to continue so we returned and proceeded to Smith Rock State Park for lunch and then home by the same route we took coming. The weather was somewhat chilly and sprinkled some, but was sunny much of the time.
