Trip Report

This climb started like a reunion of friends at Diamond Lake Campground when the group from Eugene ran into Rich and Jan Anselmo, Lynn Farmer, and Jerry Crosby. They had cancelled their attempt at Mt. Rainier because of weather, had climbed Mt. Bailey the day before, and were planning to climb Thielsen. We all decided to climb together. And what a great climb it was! The weather was perfect, the snow had melted off the trail, and the group was strong and enthusiastic. No-one had any problems with the ascent or the final rock climb up the pinnacle. You could see Mt. Hood to the North and Mt. Shasta to the south. It would have been hard to imagine a better day in the mountains. Congratulations go to the many Climb School graduates for their first ascent of this classic mountain. Climbers were Rich & Jan Anselmo, Jerry Crosby, Lynn Farmer, Chris & Truman Grandy, Jamie Kiley, Tom McGuirk, Kyle Merriam, Bill Montgomery, Barbara Schulz and leader John Pegg.
