Trip Report

We all met at the Tualatin REI Saturday morning at 10:30 am. From there we headed up to the Cold Springs trail head on the south side of Mt. Adams. Snow blocked the road four miles from the end, forcing us to hike an extra four miles. We quickly hiked up to timberline, set up camp in a wonderful evening sun and had a nice dinner.

After a good night’s sleep we left camp at 4:40 am. We quickly hiked up to the Lunch Counter and on up to the false summit. After a short rest and snack we walked up to the summit in a glorious calm, sunny day. The top temperature was 38 degrees with light wind. Time to the summit was 5 hours and 25 minutes. The views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood were good; the rest of the mountains were covered with haze. On the top we put on our skis and proceeded to ski down. The snow was just softening up as we started down from the false summit. The ski down was fun and fast. The snow was soft, but not too soft. We quickly reached camp, packed up our gear and skied on down to the cars. Those on this "Ski & Slide" of Mt. Adams were Jack Barnett, Andy Duncan, Ian Ives, Boris Galitsky and leader Kevin McManigal.
