Trip Report

Five Obsidians and four guests, including two Mazamas, enjoyed beautiful scenery and good weather for an overnight camp and climb on Broken Top. We met at the Green Lakes Trailhead at 11:00 pm on Saturday and had a fine warm hike to the lakes, where we took a refreshing dip before heading up to our camp site near the spring. A relaxed evening and lovely clear night were followed by an early morning start up the mountain’s north-west ridge (though not as early as planned: the leader overslept!). The climb went well and we made good time, reaching the summit just as a group of Mazamas was coming down. The view from the top was fine but hazy, and the trip down uneventful. We packed up and enjoyed another dip in the lake before hiking back to the cars, pleasantly tired and contented by good companionship and a good outing.
