Trip Report

The plan was to gather at the McLoughlin trailhead on Saturday evening and car camp prior to an early start on Sunday. But the assembling group was met by swarms of voracious mosquitoes and a fellow climber who announced he had a room at a nearby lodge, complete with screened windows and extra beds. But we Obsidians are a hardy group. I only lost half my fellow campers! But, as the first light appeared on Sunday, so did our "civilized" climbers. We got under way quickly, pursued again by thirsty insects. The day soon became fine and warn as we followed the trail through the woods and up the ridge. A little remnant snow under the trees presented no problems and the upper ridge was clear. Everyone made good times and enjoyed the bright day, beautiful scenery and great views. We had the summit to ourselves until we were nearly ready to leave, then met several other parties heading up as we made our uneventful and pleasant hike back down the ridge and out to the cars. I could not have asked for a finer day or a better group to share a great hike. Climbers were nonmembers Erik Bonnett and Michael Blair and Obsidians Deb Carver, Peter Howison, John Jacobsen, Chris Miller, Dick Snyder (assistant leader) and Doug Nelson (leader).
