Trip Report

Left Eugene at 6:30 a.m. on July 26. Drove to Whitney Portal, arriving at 8:30 p.m. Camped at the trailhead that night. Left the trailhead at 7:30 a.m. next day. After about half an hour on trail arrived at North Fork trail and proceeded to Upper Boy Scout Lake at approximately 12,000 ft. level at about 3:30 p.m. Made camp and spent the night there. Morning of July 28 decided to rest that day and climb the next day. At about noon a Ranger came by and informed the group that weather was coming in the next day with snow down to 10,000 ft. Not wanting to get caught unprepared in freezing weather, and afraid we would be stuck there for possibly days, we packed up our gear and went back down to the Portal that afternoon. Spent the night at the Portal and drove back to Eugene the next day (July 29) at approximately 7:30 p.m. Climbers were Judy Terry, Jerry Hawes and Bill Johnson (leader).
