Trip Report

The morning was sunny and mild as we stopped at McKenzie Ranger Station to pick up hand tools and to get the latest on trail and snow conditions from Steve. There were patches of snow on the Deer Butte Trail at 4,000 feet elevation. A small gain in elevation and we lost the trail altogether. We retreated to beautiful Kuitan Lake and enjoyed lunch, unfortunately with the mosquitoes. Here on the western boundary of the Mt. Washington Wilderness are stands of enormous noble fir trees. We hiked north to Robinson Lake trimming brush and clearing the trail of debris as we went, covering 7 miles on our return to the car.

Those enjoying this pleasant spring day in the mountains were Ann-Marie Askew, Max Brown, Wayne Deeter and trip leader Dave Predeek.
