Trip Report

We started our South Sister hike at the Falls Creek trailhead at 3:30 p.m. The weather was perfect, in the mid eighties. We arrived at Moraine Lake camping area at 5:00 p.m. and not surprised to see our campsite occupied. We did however spot a site where lighting struck last year. You know the saying, so why not setup camp here. After setting up camp we had a relaxing evening with a combined dinner of Chicken Caesar Salad. Our plan was to rise at 3:30 and hike to the false summit under the full moon. We began our hike at 4:00 a.m. under a dazzling full moon. We only needed headlamps in a few areas under trees. We arrived at the false summit at 6:30 a.m. After a short break, we proceeded to the south rim. We arrived at the south rim at 7:30 a.m. and hiked on to the east rim and on to the summit for a spectacular view of Middle and North Sister. Successful climbers included first timers Paul Fenley and Claudia Arias along with repeat climbers Elizabeth Lamb, co-leader Kim Sawyer and climb leader Virgil Lamb. <img border="2" src="images/vl20050821-0001.jpeg" width="800" height="533">
