Trip Report

We planned for our traditional Fall Color Trip to use the scenic Territorial Road through Lorane and Yoncalla, but it was less than scenic because of the dense ground fog.

At the Cabin Creek Rest Area, we dined on gourmet goodies provided by our wonderful hospitality committee. On to Wildlife Safari, now in sunshine and warm weather for a fantastic 90 minute circuit. The animals were very active and our guide Wanda was most interesting. At midday, we lunched at their Smokin' Hippo restaurant and we had time to see other animals and exhibits, including Snowball, the now famous rescued deer.

Following a shorter drive through of the facility, we traveled back roads in colorful countryside, through Lookinglass, Melrose and old Fort Umpqua.

At I-5 after a brief rest stop, we stopped at Rice Hill for the usual ice cream. The nickel cone is $2.00, and the 2 scoop size is $2.50.

Driver Mo Langham maneuvered the large bus over narrow roads and tight turns at the Safari with great skill.

Twenty nine riders, including 6 nonmembers returned to Shopko at 5:15 p.m.
