Trip Report

We came together as a group Saturday afternoon at South Eugene High School and drove to Broken Arrow Campground on Diamond Lake.

We began or approach to the peak on a cool, clear Sunday morning a little after 6:00 a.m. We covered the four miles of groomed trail in about two hours.

We proceeded upward on the climbers trail into a cool wind. The going was a bit tiring because of loose scree and elevation.

We stopped at a point about 200 ft. above a prominent feature known as Theilsen's Hand. At this point I was reaching into my pack for water. The pack slipped from my hand and it rolled down the mountain. I made a precarious descent into a gully to retrieve the pack and we scrambled up to Chicken Point.

We set a fixed line to the summit and we all enjoyed the incredible view from this exposed summit. We congratulated Brian Hamilton for achieving the goal of reaching his tenth Oregon Cascade peak with the Obsidians.

Climbers were Brian Hamilton, Dave Jensen, Sean Breslin, Dallas Hemphill and Larry Huff, leader.
