North Coast Hiking

Description:

We’ll stay at a rental house in Cannon Beach with full kitchen. The house sleeps 10 with three couples, or 7 singles.

Three great hikes are planned: Neahkahnie Mountain/Oregon Coast Trail, Tillamook Head and Saddle Mountain. All three are within ½ hour of Cannon Beach. The first two moderate hikes offer ocean views; the Saddle Mountain hike is more challenging and features views of the mouth of the Columbia River.

Breakfasts and lunches are on your own. Three dinners are included and will be prepared and shared by the group. A pre-trip meeting will be announced at a later date. The trip is limited to 7 – 10 participants (depending on the number of couples). Preference will be given to members.

Cost: $115 members; $120 non-members.

Trip Report

Six Obsidians met in Cannon Beach on a partly sunny afternoon. We set up housekeeping in a 1910 beach cottage at the north end of town. There were 4 bedrooms, and one hallway in use. We cheerfully divided up the space and proceeded to cook and eat many wondrous meals. The house was warm and snug once the furnace and fireplace were fixed, which was the first order of business upon arrival.

The weather was cooperative throughout the trip, with brief showers only, including a light hail/snow shower at the top of Saddle Mtn. The moon was full, the sun was shining, the mud was very, very thick. Especially on Tillamook Head.

Neahkahnie Mtn to Short Sands Beach 5.1 900' elevation gain
