Description:

Due to to large volume of muck (twigs, moss, mud, needles, etc.) that has accumulated on the trails during this winters storms I am going to try to have a few more frequent outings dedicated to cleaning up the trail surface. These outings will just be Obsidians. (If you would be interested in leading one of these outings, please let me know.)

We will need to provide our own tools, gloves, etc. If you plan to attend, please sign up or let me know via e-mail so that I can make sure we have enough tools.

Trip Report

This year's late snow storms took a heavy toll on the the trails in Spencer Butte Park. The snow not only brought down trees it brought down, moss, twigs, needles, and other material that accumulated as muck in the trails.

For this outing we started out from the Willamette & 52nd trailhead and hiked up the trail raking and scraping material off of the trail surface. We expanded on the previous weeks joint work with the City and what other trail users had done cutting fallen trees and branches back away from the trail. We also cleared drains and drainage features, some of which were filled to the point that they were at the same level as the trail surface. Our group worked into just above the switchbacks and before the illicit North trail on the Ridgeline.
