Description:

Tomorrow evening is the first of our summer schedule trail maintenance outings. In preparation for the coming trail work to create a more clearly defined trail on top of Spencers Butte, we'll be working to salvage/save native plants/seeds from the summit of Spencers Butte that will be used to help restore the butte after work is finished.

Trip Report

For our first evening outing we had a special task. We salvaged plants from along the new summit trail route to help with the replanting and restoration projects that will follow the project.

The bulk of our group headed up the main trail at 5 p.m. with Christer LaBrecque of the Parks and Open Space Division. Another separate group headed up the West Trail at 5:30 and by the time we reached the top the first group had finished the salvage work. Our groups united, we hiked down the main trail picking up litter along the way.

Back at the trailhead we worked to put the salvaged plants in pots.
