Trip Report

For this month's outing we worked independently to prepare the West Trail in Spencer Butte park for its anticipated increased use this summer while the main trail is closed. Our stalwart Obsidian volunteers were joined by 2 non-members, Nathaniel and William, who were interested in finding out about the club but ended up being put to work instead. We hiked up the West Trail clearing drainage, placing brush to help keep illicit trail and shortcuts from continuing to form, pounding in protruding rebar, buried exposed cable, and cleaned and improved the steps. As a special treat Autumn and Roberta were able to watch a dear pass by and use the trail they'd just been working on.

Clara did an exquisite job cleaning off the concrete steps at the trailhead and also removed blackberries along the parking lot.
