Description:

The trip will be a 2 night backpack starting on Friday (7/25) and returning that Sunday. Early Friday morning we’ll backpack 6 miles into the Obsidian Area, during our hike in we’ll be able to look at a few meadows that we were able to rehab last year to see if it was successful. After passing through those meadows we’ll setup a basecamp close to sunshine meadows and Obsidian Falls. We'll spend the majority of our time creating small dams every couple of feet in an old user trail that runs parallel with the PCT. If we build them right, the dams will catch dirt and other sediment during storms which will help make the trail disappear over time.

Contact the leader before signing up, we might be switching to a project in Linton Meadows which will add a couple miles to the project.

If we time it right we'll be able to see the wildflowers as well as hear some incredible stories from passing PCT thru-hikers.

In order to go on the trip, contact the leader about filling out a volunteer agreement with the Forest Service that needs to be filled out in advance. Car pooling will also be figured out as the date approaches

Trip Report

There ended up being a slight change in this report, rather then spend the weekend in the Obsidian Area I would join up with other volunteers from the Forest Service and head to Linton Meadows for a similar project. We were also joined with two of the wilderness rangers from the McKenzie District as well as joining up with one of their trail crews in Linton Meadows. The group was around a dozen people and performed activities such as clearing logs, adding new signs and fixing a user trail in the Linton Meadows area.
The weather was overcast for most of the weekend which made for a great time minus the views in the Linton Meadow area.
