Description:

Our trip to Smith Rock State Park will involve climbing technical sport and trad rock climbing routes. Participants need to have had previous rocking experience climbing and their own equipment. We will climb all day Sat, camp Sat night nearby and then climb again on Sun.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: Participants need harness, helmet, at least 3 locking carabiners, a belay-rappel device, rock shoes, 2 personal anchors systems and a day pack. They will also need food for 1 breakfast and 2 lunches. We will probably do a group dinner at the camping area.

Trip Report

The Smith Rock climbing trip was previously cancelled due to weather, and even though the forecast for this past weekend looked dubious we persevered and went over to climb. The first climbs of the day were still damp from the previous nights rain and so we more "spicy" , i.e., more challenging or scary. Still, the weather held up for Saturday and we ended up with a full day of climbing. Sun was a different story, the fog was thick and it had rained the night before and we were concerned about the rock still being wet so we decided on a trail run instead.
