Trip Report

We left our camp at Green Lakes on Sunday morning after the sun came up and picked our way across creek to start the Old Crater route. We didn't stay on the scree for too long before Marge suggested we make use of our crampons. While warm, the snow was firm enough that the going was quite pleasant; we only had to cross scree a couple of times as we followed the ridge and snow filled gullies to gain Hodge's Crest. After intentionally "treeing" ourselves, we were able to use the 26m rope to rappel off the crest, onto the snow and continue to the South Sister summit. We decended via the Green Lakes trail and welcomed the footbath at the stream crossing.
No fees were charged since South Sister was done in conjunction with Broken Top.
