Trip Report

Our  7.2 mile loop hike started at Doris Ranch with a stop at  Willamette Heights Park before we walked the Mill Race Path and Middle Fork Path.  Surprise! Everyone read the trip description and had an interesting Oregon fact to share. We especially thank Steve Adey who read a dramatic anecdote from David Douglas’s journal at our snack break.  An egret flying from the millrace wetlands was a showstopper.  We took note of a well worn totem pole at Willamette Heights Park and wondered who carved it. Since the trip, I learned that the totem pole was a1990 youth Super Summer project. And that in fact the sons of two Obsidians, Anita Pierce (Dorian) and Caroline Moore (Colin), helped carve this serendipitous discovery of ours.
