This trip takes use down the freeway to Hwy 38 through Elkton, Dean Creek Elk viewing area on to Reedsport and 15 miles south to some of the tallest dunes in the federally managed area. We will hiking to the top of the first dune with good views of the ocean and the deflation plain ahead. The trail across the deflation will lead use to the beach. By this time of the year there should be some water here, so bring a pair of old running shoes and be prepared to wade. In the fall when this trip is usually lead we go prepared to wade but we do not always have to. Time spent on the beach depends on the weather. This trip goes no matter what the weather in Eugene. The weather on the coast makes half the trip. We will return through Florence, where we will probably stop for coffee and a snack in old town.
