Trip Report

This hike was designed with generous and enthusiastic help of Tom Orsi from Bandon, OR. Tom is active member of South Coast Striders, a hiking group which cooperate with the Bay Area Hospital, and the Coos County Women's Health Coalition.

Our long journey started near Yoakam Point in ideal 48°F. Then we hiked to Sunset Bay State Park and Shore Acres State Park where we had lunch. Nice hiking weather allowed us to continue around North Cove, Simpson Reef Overlook and then, through a maze of the trails further up and down through Skunk Cabbage packed Bastendorff Bog. Near the end, we stroll through blooming Shore Acres gardens. When wind picked up, we marched briskly on the shore trail back to our shuttle car.
Just minutes after we finished our 10.4 miles trek, skies opened with full force rain.
Two of three cars stopped in an excellent Tokyo Bistro in Coos Bay. Continuous heavy rain followed us all to Eugene.
We had a great time. Thank you, everyone!
