Trip Report

The weather was perfect in the mid-seventies. We stopped at each of the seven named bridge as riders took turns reporting on their assigned bridge. Many were surprised that the Frohnmayer (Autzen) Bridge was built in 1970 for a cost of $175,000 to carry utilities(steam) across the Willamette River. The idea of people and bikes using the bridge was an after thought. The bridge is 667 feet across and was the first of bike/ped structures in the area. The most recent bridge built is the Delta Bridge in 2010 at a cost of $5.2m and is 760 feet across. Also the group rode on Eugene's only cycle-track on Alder Street. Next year this same concept will be incorporated on West Amazon providing bi-directional bike travel adjacent to one another. The ride end at Hideaway Bakery where we enjoyed a well deserved lunch.
