Gordon Meadows To Gordon Lakes

Description:

This will officially be an "exploratory" outing as I have never hiked in this area before. The last time it was visited by Obsidians was 6/27/09! We will be hiking from the mid-point of this trail (Gordon Meadows) to Gordon Lakes and back. The meadows could be wet/marshy in places. Hopefully, our timing will be right for wildflowers blooming in the meadows. We will have a leisurely lunch at the lakes, which could be pleasant for fishing, wading or swimming.
****The forecast is for temperatures around 90 degrees at our hiking location!! Please make sure you bring plenty of water!! I'm guessing many of us will choose to cool off in the lakes during our lunch break!!

Trip Report

The weather was beautiful, though the 85+ degrees was warmer than we would have liked. This trail skirts multiple huge meadows, several of which were in full bloom and quite spectacular! Thankfully, for the most part the trail stays in the shade of the forest. There were only a few patches of snow left, and almost NO mosquitos! We lunched at the larger of the Gordon Lakes where Jane, Rebecca, Barb & June enjoyed a refreshing swim among the fish and newts. This was after gathering enough water to douse a hot, smoldering fire some careless campers left behind. Of note, this trail has far more elevation gain than the Forest Service website led me to believe (it stated only 200' gain). I believe that is just for the Gordon Meadows trail connector. From the main trail to the lakes there were numerous ups & downs, some which were moderately steep. I believe the total elevation gain for this hike is somewhere between 1200-1500 feet. The group agreed it was a good hike and look forward to doing it again, perhaps in the fall next time.
