Description:

Turn right at the sign for West Summit Trailhead and follow pay fee signs. We meet near the gate and pay station. If you don’t have a Lane County permit, allow time to purchase one at the pay station by trailhead. Depending on weather, I plan to take Trail 7 & 3 to the main trail.
If Pisgah is still closed, I'll probably substitute Spencer Butte. Sunset is 6:45 pm and Moonrise is 6:58. That means we would wait at least 20 minutes for the moon to rise over the foothills.

Trip Report

An hour before the 6:45 sunset, we took the longer way to the summit using trails 7, 3,4, and 1. It was a pleasant evening to enjoy the sunset reds, eat our yellow pears from Me and Moore and wait 25 minutes for the moon to appear above the foothills. The spectacular bright red harvest moon was greeted with cheers and clapping. We were back at the cars around 8:00.
