Description:

Sunset is 8:59PM. Because of the Explora Talk on the 20th, I am leading a solstice sunset hike a day early.
I plan to take Trail #17 and then up Trail 4 (in the shade) to the summit. Perhaps the sun rays will light up the slot in the pedestal a day before the solstice.
We will not linger on top.

Trip Report

A sunset hike the evening before the summer solstice offered a less crowded vigil at the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal.
We celebrated with lemonade and dessert. The brilliant red twilight afterglow was even more dramatic on our hike back down.
