Description:

This is a reschedule of my 5/27 trip which got lost in a snowdrift. The trail should be mostly clear except for small patches of snow and a few blow-downs. I will once again check with the Sweet Home Ranger District a few days before hand to get an idea of the conditions. We hope to see some late wildflowers and a brief look at the geology.

Trip Report

A relatively cool day with a light breeze made this a pleasant hike. We crossed two small patches of snow on the north side of Iron Mountain and a few blow-downs that were easy to get across. Wildflowers galore - an amazing variety of species and colors. We kept to a moderate pace and there were many stops along the trail for photography, rest and water. After a steep climb to the summit we enjoyed lunch in the sunshine and great views of the snow covered Sisters. Then we hiked down through shady groves to the trail head parking.
