Trip Report

After cancelling the previous weekend due to rain, we had perfect weather for our kayak trip to Fish Lake. The temperature was in the low 80s, offset by a nice breeze. The water level was high making it easy to launch our boats. As we headed to the far end of the lake we saw Golden-Eye ducks followed by their small fuzzy chicks. Unfortunately, there was a downed log which blocked us from exploring the stream. We also saw geese and an osprey; Viceroy butterflies and a charming snake slithered down to join us as we rafted up to eat lunch. Two kayakers saw a large number of frogs frolicking on the beach. We saw the snowy top of Mount Washington as we paddled back to shore. As leader. I decided to show everyone how to gracefully exit from their kayaks as i fell off the side of mine and ended up in the lake. There are many to thank for setting up this special trip. Lana Lindstrom met some of the participants in Eugene. Daphne James, Rich Romm and non- member, Stuart Trenholme loaded 4 kayaks into Daphne's pick-up, making an easy transport to and from Blue River. My back thanks them. We all went home with big smiles on our faces.
