Trip Report

We took a chance that it would be snowing and not raining at the pass and we were rewarded with snow. There were 3-5 inches of powder which made for a soft and soundless ascent to Rosary Lakes. The group chose to continue past Lower Rosary to Middle Rosary for lunch. With a slight breeze blowing our lunch was short. However, we had time to enjoy Pulpit Rock across from the snow covered lake. Since the conditions were favorable we decided to not return the same way we came. Instead we continued on the Pacific Crest Trail up to the Maiden Peak Saddle. From there we made our way up to the Downhill Ski runs via Tait's trail which led us back to our cars. With the Willamette Pass ski area closed we had the ski runs all to ourselves. The descent was soft and fluffy and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to be on the slopes. The sun broke through the clouds near the end of the trip enhancing the snow covered trees. We considered ourselves fortunate to have had such a great day in the snow given this seasons lack of snowpack.
