Description:

This out-and-back route is a road ski to a fire lookout with wonderful views in clear weather of the surrounding Cascade peaks. We will eat lunch at the base of the lookout.

PLEASE NOTE. The last ¾ of a mile to the summit can be challenging to ascend/descend depending on the conditions. Contact the leader prior to the trip if you are uncertain about the skills required to safely enjoy this outing.

Trip Report

An ascent to the fire lookout on Odell Butte is a good choice when snow conditions elsewhere are abysmal. Good weather and good company made this a fine outing despite surface conditions that were less than optimal. Our group enjoyed a summit lunch with expansive views of the surrounding peaks and a rapid descent on surfaces ranging from soft snow to crusty ice. Everyone agreed that it was another good day to be outdoors in Oregon.
