Description:

Description: Turn right at the sign for West Summit Trailhead and follow pay fee signs. We meet near the gate and pay station. If you don’t have a Lane County permit, allow time to purchase one at the pay station by trailhead. Depending on weather, I plan to take back trails to the summit, avoiding the main trail #1. Mileage and elevation could vary but around 6 miles at a steady pace. Estimated time is 3 hours so bring snacks. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions.

I plan to take #5, #56, #6, #2 to the summit. The route is longer and harder than taking the main trail to the summit. Perhaps you will spy a gabion or the red berries on a madrone tree.

Trip Report

Dorene led the way on Trails 5, 56, 6, and 2 taking us out of the cold and clouds to the sun and blue skies. A few saw the gabion. It was ten degrees warmer at the summit where we celebrated Dave Strutin’s birthday with his delicious no bake powerhouse cookies. Seven headed down Trail 1 while the others now energized from the cookies continued hiking Trail 4 and 3 to the north trailhead completing the 7.4 mile trip in 3 hours and 15 minutes. Pat Soussan continued on to the Obsidian Lodge to help the grounds crew plant ferns. Dave’s cookies are indeed powerful!
