Description:

If the road is icy we will park at Ickinick sno park and cross the road to Clear Lk. I scouted Clear Lake on 2/13. The last few weeks of warm sun has melted the snow. The trail was mostly bare with some sections of packed down sno. At this time, you can hike it in boots and will need poles for the few icy sections, but take your snow shoes since there is some snow expected this week and it might be more than anticipated. I am looking for additional drivers.

Trip Report

Beautiful Clear Lake sits at 3,000 ft, and with several weeks of unseasonably warm and sunny weather to melt the snow, the trail was bare in the days leading up to our snow shoe. Then, the night before our trip the snow level dropped dramatically and we arrived at our trailhead to find sparkling white trees and fresh snow blanketing the ground. Half our group used snow shoes and others opted for micro spikes on their boots. Both worked well on the 3 to 5 inches of fluffy new snow. At 28 degrees and no wind conditions were excellent. It snowed on and off through out the day and we were even treated to morning sunshine and glimpses of blue sky. Clear lake is exceptionally scenic and makes a great snow shoe on an Oregon winter day.
