Description:

Hike departs from Clearwater Park--Take 42nd St. south from either Hwy 126 or Main St. in Springfield. Turn left on Jasper Rd. Turn right on Clearwater Lane, which ends at our trailhead parking lot by the river.
Our route takes us west along the Middle Fork of the Willamette to the junction with the Mill Race path where we will turn right and head toward downtown Springfield and the Booth-Kelly TH. From there we pass Pioneer Park and head up 2nd St. over the hill to Dorris Ranch. We will eat lunch at either Pioneer Park or Dorris Ranch, depending on our timing. From Dorris Ranch we head east on the Middle Fork Path along the river bank back to Clearwater Park.
*If anyone needs a ride from town out to Clearwater, let me know--we will work something out!

Trip Report

The hike started with chilly temperatures (near 40) and a steady drizzle the first 2 miles. We saw a wide variety of waterfowl along the route: Canadian geese, egret, great blue heron, mallard ducks, and what I think was a pair of buffleheads. Thankfully, the drizzle disappeared by the time we reached the Booth-Kelly trailhead and the temperature warmed up. After lunch at the Quarry Creek picnic area we were treated to a pair of coyotes in the field north of the bike path.
